Ana Carla P. Smith MD

Dr. Smith was born in Miami and raised in Tampa, Florida. She attended the University of Miami, earning a Bachelor's of Science degree in Biology and Psychology, and continued on at UM for her Doctor of Medicine degree. Finally tired of the year-round heat, she moved north (to "The South") and completed her post-graduate trainings in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center.  She started Developing Minds in 2008. Dr. Smith is Board Certified in both Adult and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.

She currently lives in Durham, North Carolina with her husband, daughter and two rescue dogs.


Jennifer Colvin MD, PhD

Jennifer Colvin MD, PhD

Dr. Colvin grew up in Baltimore, MD. She graduated from Harvard University with a degree in Chemistry. She earned a PhD in Neuroscience and an MD from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. She stayed at Washington University for residency in General Psychiatry. At Duke University Medical Center, she completed a clinical fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and an NIMH research fellowship in Psychiatry. She is Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry.

Christine Coleman, PhD

Dr. Coleman was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, and grew up in Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of North Florida, her Master of Science in General Psychology from Nova Southeastern University, and her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and School Psychology from Florida State University. She completed her doctoral internship at Duke University Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) providing psychotherapy services and psychological testing to undergraduate and graduate students. In addition to offering mental health counseling, Dr. Coleman also offers ADHD testing for clients 18 years old and older, and career counseling for adolescents, college students, and adults. Dr. Coleman's counseling style is integrative and inclusive, using cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused, mindfulness, dialectical behavior therapy, and psychodynamic approaches in her work with a wide variety of people. She currently lives in Durham with her husband and Golden Retriever named Buddy.


Carrie B. Pettit, MSN, FNP-C

Carrie earned undergraduate degrees in English and Spanish from Ole Miss prior to earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. She worked as an Emergency/Trauma, Psychiatric ER, and ICU RN before deciding to pursue her Master’s Degree to become a Nurse Practitioner. As a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Carrie has focused her practice in General Psychiatry since 2012. She enjoys seeing adults ages 18+ for medication management. She currently splits her time between her homes in Fort Worth, Texas and Raleigh, North Carolina with her husband and canine daughter, Margot.
